Day 2 - #60Days60Activities - /s/ Phonic Sound

Since I'm a certified Jolly Phonics trainer and take classes for kids, it is obvious I would help Z learn phonics and sounds. Well, it isn't obvious really, if Z wouldn't have been interested in sounds I wouldn't have really forced her. Since she loves her sounds, I don't mind doing them.

Day 2 - /s/ Phonic Sound

I follow a multisensory approach in class, I do the same with Z. We sang songs. did the action for the sound, listened to ssssstory about a ssssssnake. We also traced /s/, since Z hasn't started writing yet (in Montessori they start at 4), Z loved it. We ended the session with a ssssssimple /s/ activity (*Which I won't do in class)

  1. That was really nice. I am also planning to start Phonics for my son who is 2.5 year old right now. Now, my question is he is interested in writing these days. Even when he is painting, he likes to write whatever letters he can like 'H' or 'A'. So I guess it is okay to go with the flow, isn't it? What say? From my side, I haven't ever tried to make him write. He will learn writing in Nursery [next session] though.

    1. Hey Reema, Montessori schools emphasise on tracing letters then writing with a pencil. So I don't give her the pencil just yet. I suggest wait till he is 3 at least, and then begin phonics.

    2. Hey thanks Falak. You know what, I found him moving his finger on the alphabets and I told him that he was 'tracing'. Now, he would do it all the time and say 'Mumma, main tracing kar raha hoon' :-)

    1. These are simpler activities keeping Z's age in mind. For my sessions I do a lot of fun stuff.
